Paris ISD Kicks Off New School Year with Convocation and Inspiring Message from Willie Spears

Paris Independent School District welcomed back its staff in heroic fashion this morning during the annual district convocation, setting the tone for an exciting year ahead. With this year’s theme, "Be The Hero," the event energized educators with celebration, recognition, and a powerful keynote by nationally renowned speaker Willie Spears.
Joining from his hometown of Panama City, Florida, Mr. Spears delivered a dynamic, passionate, and humorous message that left a lasting impact on everyone in attendance. A critically acclaimed author, former coach, educator, and administrator, Spears has written 20 books and speaks to audiences across the country more than 20 times a month. His impressive resume includes accolades such as Teacher of the Year, “Who’s Who” among American educators, and “Outstanding Graduate” in the field of education.
Spears, a graduate of Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Troy University, has shared his message with Fortune 500 companies like Chick-Fil-A, State Farm, and McDonald’s, as well as collegiate football powerhouses including the University of Kentucky, University of Oklahoma, Clemson, and Florida State. His motivational talk tailored to our “Be The Hero” theme reminded every staff member of the powerful role they play in shaping students’ lives.
The morning began with Paris High School cheerleaders and drumline welcoming staff with energy and school spirit. Thanks to Farmers Bank & Trust, attendees were treated to a delicious Chick-fil-A breakfast, and ten lucky staff members received $100 cash giveaways. Paris Coffee brought their coffee trailer, and Mandy Helberg with HealX Wound Care generously made a donation to help lower the cost of drinks for our employees.
The celebration continued with recognition of employees with perfect attendance, followed by a cash giveaway donated by a generous anonymous donor. The event concluded with a big giveaway — a free weekend stay in a Glenwood, Arkansas cabin, donated by Dr. Mike and Katie Elliott.
Today’s convocation was not only a celebration of the return of staff members but also a powerful reminder that heroes walk our hallways every day — in the form of teachers, staff, and school leaders ready to make a difference.
