Aikin Elementary Serves Up a Love of Reading at Annual Book Tasting Café

Aikin Elementary School recently transformed its library into a charming café, where books were the main course and a love of reading was on the menu! The school's annual Book Tasting Café gave students a fun and interactive opportunity to explore different genres, discover new authors, and find their next favorite book.
With a café-inspired atmosphere, students were treated to a literary experience designed to make reading exciting and inviting. During their 20-minute sessions, students rotated through two different “menu selections,” where staff members and volunteers served up a variety of books for students to sample.
This year's literary menu featured something for every reader, including Space, Dogs and Cats, 5-Star Reads, Video Games, Giggle Books, and books by popular children's author Mo Willems. From laugh-out-loud stories to adventures beyond the stars, students had plenty of opportunities to discover books that sparked their curiosity and imagination.
Aikin Reading Coach Vickie England shared the importance of creating memorable reading experiences for young learners.
“Reading opens up a whole world of possibilities for our students, and sometimes all it takes is finding that one special book to spark a lifelong love of reading,” England said. “Our Book Tasting Café gives students the chance to explore books they might not normally choose on their own. We want them to see that reading isn't just something they do at school—it can be an adventure, an escape, and something they truly enjoy.”
The annual event continues to be a favorite tradition at Aikin Elementary, encouraging students to step outside their reading comfort zones and discover that there is a book for everyone.
At Aikin Elementary, the Book Tasting Café proves that a great book is always on the menu!
